Close to entering the State of Idaho and going back to the mountain time zone (+1h), we left the truck stop in Nevada from where we spent the night in the middle of noisy engines..
After a few miles, we passed through Twin Falls, Idaho. Located at the North entrance of the city stand the Perrine's Bridge constructed above the Snake River Canyon. Amazing view from the sides where we could observed some "Base Jumper" flying from the bridge above the river.
We stopped by the visitor center to get some information about our next "destination" : Craters of the Moon !
This "National Monument & Preserve" is a volcanic features resulted from old geologic events that produced a vast ocean of rock, a sea of lava flows containing volcanic craters, lava tube caves & spatter cones.
The weird & scenic landscape is accessible by short trails crossing crater and lava fragments. It's peculiar surface, colours & forms with a lunar aspect is spectacular.
Surprisingly the area has a diversity of vegetation naturally growing on lava, which we'd never imagined when we had a first sight of the dark "mountains".
From atop of "Inferno Cone" the panoramic was unbelievable providing a 360 view of the surroundings. While hiking the steep cone, we had the feeling of walking on the moon like astronauts. (minus the outfit.. :p)
It's just too bad that we didn't had the time to explore the caves & tunnels for which we would had to obtain a permit.
Still had a few miles to drive before the rest area on our road towards Yellowstone...

Depart dans la matinee du "Truck stop" ou nous avons passe la nuit au milieu de camions bruillants...
Nous ne sommes plus qu'a quelques kilometres de l'etat de l'Idaho ainsi que du retour sur le fuseau horaire des montagnes ou malheureusement il nous faut avancer d'une heure.
Un premier arret inatendu a la sortie de la ville de Twin Falls dans l'Idaho, ou nous decouvrons le Perrine's Bridge, un pont tranversant le Snake River Canyon.
Vue magnifique d'ou nous pourrons egalement observer des courageux "basejumper" se jeter depuis le pont. Nous en profitons pour passer par le centre des visiteurs ou nous trouvons quelques informations sur la region ainsi que sur notre prochaine escale: Craters of the Moon!
Ce "Monument National" est en realitee un site ou les vestiges d'eruptions volcanique survenues il y'a plusieurs millions d'annees sont preserves. On y trouve crateres volcanique et coulees de lave accessibles par des circuits de randonnee courts.
Le décor luneaire est surrealiste, les surfaces, couleurs et formes nous laissent perplexe.
Etrangement, l'environnement est propice a une vegetation variee. Chose que nous n'imaginions pas lors de notre premier apercu de ces grandes "collines" noires..
En escaladant l'une des cheminee (Inferno Cone) on se sentait presque commme des astronautes marchant sur la lune... (avec la grele en plus!)
Seul regret, ne pas avoir eu assez de temps pour visiter les caves et tunnels de lave pour lesquels l'obtention d'un "permis" delivre par les rangers du site est obligatoire.
Apres cette etonnante decouverte, nous reprenons la route vers l'Est afin de nous rapprocher de Yellowstone et trouver une aire de repos pour la nuit.
